Former Rivers State Governor and ADC chieftain, Rotimi Amaechi, says President Bola Tinubu can be voted out in 2027 if Nigerians participate actively in the elections.

Speaking at the fifth anniversary lecture of First Daily newspaper in Abuja, Amaechi argued that Tinubu’s 2023 loss in Lagos showed he is “not invincible.”

He warned that voter apathy and complacency enable electoral fraud, stressing that citizens must take responsibility for credible elections.

“The more you say results have been written, the more voter apathy increases. Voter apathy will make President Tinubu return to Villa,” he said.

Amaechi, who declared his intention to run for president, blamed the opposition’s disunity for its repeated failures, adding that “no incumbent government can achieve electoral reform.”

At the same event, Senator Seriake Dickson described election rigging as “the worst coup against democracy,” while political analyst Dr. Sam Amadi called for reforms to restore the independence of electoral institutions.

The lecture, themed “2027: How Can We Make Our Votes Count?”, ended with a call for citizens’ vigilance and stronger electoral laws ahead of the 2027 polls.
