Nigerian youth organisations have called on the Federal Government to establish a youth advisory body for the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), to promote transparency, accountability, and inclusion in managing student loans.
They said such a body would institutionalise youth participation and make NELFUND more responsive to students’ needs, noting persistent concerns over transparency, loan disbursement, and communication.
A youth representative stressed that involving young people in NELFUND’s decision-making would bridge the gap between government policy and student realities.
The groups also urged government to define clear guidelines for the proposed body and ensure its independence from political influence.
They further advocated an annual public audit of NELFUND’s operations with youth representation on the audit committee.
The Federal Government has yet to react to the proposal.
