Vice President Kashim Shettima has returned to Abuja after leading Nigeria’s delegation to the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30), in Belém, Brazil, where the country reaffirmed its commitment to global climate action and a green transition.
According to his media aide, Stanley Nkwocha, Shettima represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the summit and delivered Nigeria’s statement titled “The Rational Soul of Nature.”
He called for predictable and equitable funding mechanisms for ecosystem protection, stressing that Nigeria’s climate policy is a national duty to safeguard the planet for future generations.
On the sidelines, Shettima held bilateral talks on carbon-market cooperation aimed at unlocking up to $3 billion annually to boost Nigeria’s low-carbon and climate-resilient development.
