The Yobe State Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly defiling a nine-year-old girl in the Nayi-Nawa area of Damaturu.
Police spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, said the suspect repeatedly lured the victim into a shop within the timber shed area, where he allegedly committed the act.
The girl has been rescued and taken for medical examination, while the suspect remains in custody.
Abdulkarim added that the case will be transferred to the Gender Unit of the State CID for further investigation and prosecution.
He also disclosed that two other suspects had been arrested for robbery and fraud in Damaturu and Bade LGAs, and would be charged to court soon.
The command expressed concern over rising youth violence linked to farmer-herder clashes and drug abuse, assuring intensified surveillance to curb the trend.
