The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), has deployed electric vehicles (EVs), for airside operations at Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Port Harcourt, and Enugu international airports, the first of its kind in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
The agency said the move aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda on clean energy and sustainability.
Each airport will have charging stations to support the eco-friendly vehicles, which can travel up to 200 kilometres per charge.
NiMet noted that the initiative will reduce emissions, lower maintenance costs, and improve operational efficiency.
The adoption of EVs, it added, reflects Nigeria’s commitment to carbon reduction and global sustainability standards.
Director-General Prof. Charles Anosike described the project as a milestone in advancing green growth and modernising NiMet’s operations within the aviation industry.
