Inter Milan and AC Milan have completed the purchase of the iconic San Siro stadium from the Municipality of Milan, paving the way for a new state-of-the-art arena on the same site.
The €197 million deal, approved by city officials after intense debate, secures ownership of the land and allows both clubs to proceed with a €1.2 billion redevelopment project covering 28 hectares in Milan’s western suburbs.
Plans include constructing a 71,500-seat stadium alongside a public park, office spaces, and entertainment facilities designed by Foster and Partners and MANICA.
The existing San Siro will remain operational until the new venue is ready and will later be partially demolished.
The clubs aim to complete the new stadium before Euro 2032, which Italy will co-host with Turkey.
Meanwhile, the current San Siro will host the opening ceremony of the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics in February 2026, one of its last major events.
