A speeding Volkswagen Golf 3 on Wednesday evening lost control and rammed into a light pole near Tipper Garage, Dutse, Abuja, leaving its occupants trapped and the vehicle mangled.
Eyewitnesses said the car, reportedly on top speed, suddenly swerved off its lane before hitting the pole. Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), officials and emergency responders arrived shortly after to rescue victims and clear the wreckage.
While rescue operations were underway, another fatal accident occurred nearby involving multiple vehicles, resulting in several casualties yet to be officially confirmed.
Security operatives were deployed to manage traffic and prevent further chaos as onlookers gathered at the scene.
FRSC officials have urged motorists to obey speed limits and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy, especially as the festive season approaches.
Residents also called for the installation of speed bumps and stricter traffic control in the area.
