A fatal road accident involving a trailer, a motorcycle, and a Volkswagen Golf 3 caused a major traffic gridlock at Dutse Tipper Garage, Abuja, on Wednesday, leaving motorists and commuters stranded for hours.
Eyewitnesses said the trailer, which reportedly suffered a brake failure, rammed into a motorcycle carrying two passengers, killing all three on the spot.
The resulting congestion led to another accident when a Golf 3 vehicle hit a barricade and crashed into an electric pole, heightening panic in the area.
Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and local traffic wardens were deployed to control traffic and clear the wreckage.
The gridlock, which began in the early morning, extended to adjoining areas, including the Dutse-Bwari-Kubwa corridor, forcing drivers to divert through Byazhin and Dutse Alhaji.
Residents have urged authorities to enforce stricter vehicle safety checks and improve traffic management to prevent similar incidents.
