The Police Service Commission (PSC) has deployed monitoring teams to Anambra State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election, warning police officers to remain neutral and professional.
PSC spokesperson Ikechukwu Ani quoted the commission’s chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu (retd.), as saying the poll would test the Nigeria Police Force’s readiness for the 2027 general elections.
Argungu cautioned that any officer found compromising electoral standards would face disciplinary action, adding that those who perform excellently would be commended.
“Police officers must display utmost discipline and impartiality to ensure a free, fair, and peaceful election,” he said.
He praised the Anambra Police Command’s preparedness, noting that Commissioner of Police Ikioye Orutugu had already toured area commands and identified flashpoints ahead of the poll.
The PSC said its monitors would be stationed across the state to ensure compliance with electoral laws and prevent misconduct.
