The Nigeria Police Force (NPF), has dismissed reports alleging that officers were compelled to buy a handbook titled “Attitudinal Change Handbook for the Nigeria Police Force” for ₦2,000 each.

Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Benjamin Hundeyin, described the report as false, clarifying that the handbook’s purchase was voluntary.

He said a circular from the Force Headquarters only directed commissioners of police to make the book available to interested officers.

Hundeyin added that investigations showed no command had made the purchase mandatory.

“If any officer somewhere made it compulsory, that should be reported to us, not the media,” he said.

A May 28, 2025 letter from the Force Headquarters introduced the author, Dr. Joseph Danley, and conveyed the Inspector-General of Police’s approval for voluntary sales.

Dr. Danley explained that the handbook aims to promote professionalism within the force, noting that no officer was coerced to buy it.

The clarification comes amid concerns over alleged compulsory deductions and payments within the police.
