The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), has denied seizing the international passport of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, describing the incident as a routine airport clearance.
A senior NIS official said the Senator was neither detained nor harassed, explaining that her passport was only taken briefly for standard verification.
NIS spokesperson ACI Akinsola Akinlabi said he was away from Abuja but would look into the matter.
The clarification followed Akpoti-Uduaghan’s claim during a Facebook Live session that immigration officers acted on the orders of Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Her passport was later returned during the broadcast.
