The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has accused the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, of taking delight in Nigeria’s challenges instead of showing true statesmanship.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Lagos APC spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, said the party was disappointed by Obi’s reaction to the recent designation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” by U.S. President Donald Trump.

Oladejo described Obi’s response as “grandstanding,” alleging that he turned a sensitive national issue into political drama rather than offering constructive engagement.

“When he finally spoke, it was too little, too late, and too predictable,” Oladejo said. “A man who desires national leadership should not need reminders to speak when his nation’s image is at stake. Leadership is proactive, not reactive.”

He accused Obi of finding satisfaction in Nigeria’s difficulties, claiming that “he appears happiest when the country is under pressure,” which he said does not reflect patriotism.

According to Oladejo, Obi’s delayed reaction stems from “sour politics and heartbreak” following President Bola Tinubu’s 2023 election victory.

He maintained that while President Tinubu’s administration is working to strengthen military and intelligence operations, enhance security cooperation, and drive economic reforms, Obi and his supporters “continue to thrive on propaganda and negativity.”

“While serious leaders are working, Obi and his online choir are rehearsing 2023 grievances and clinging to foreign commentary for political oxygen,” Oladejo stated.

He urged Nigerians to remain steadfast in supporting the Renewed Hope agenda and to reject politicians who “profit politically from national difficulty.”

“Nigeria will rise with or without the naysayers,” he added.
