The Federal Capital Territory Fire Service (FCT-FS) says it saved property worth ₦14.46 billion and 69 lives between January and September 2025.

Speaking during the agency’s 23rd anniversary in Abuja, the Comptroller, Adebayo Amiola, said the service responded to 338 fire calls and nine rescue operations within the period, while ₦6.07 billion worth of property and 18 lives were lost.

He noted that the service recorded the highest fire incidents in January and February, with properties worth over ₦5 billion saved in the first quarter alone.

Amiola, however, decried the challenge of ageing fire trucks and inadequate manpower, stressing that Abuja’s rapid expansion had outpaced available resources.

He appealed for more fire stations in districts such as Wuse, Guzape, Mpape, Jikwoyi, and Lugbe to ensure faster emergency response and commended FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for supporting the service.
