Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs), have condemned U.S. President Donald Trump’s threat to deploy troops to Nigeria over alleged killings of Christians, describing it as illegal and a breach of Nigeria’s sovereignty.
Trump had warned that the U.S. might “go in guns blazing” if the Nigerian government failed to stop what he termed a “Christian genocide.”
Constitutional lawyer Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), said any foreign military operation without Nigeria’s consent would amount to an act of aggression under international law.
Adedayo Adedeji (SAN), stressed that no nation can interfere in another’s internal affairs, noting that reports of a Christian genocide were exaggerated.
Chief Mike Ahamba (SAN), urged the Nigerian government to act decisively to prevent any pretext for foreign intervention, while Jiti Ogunye faulted Trump’s remarks as hypocritical and politically motivated, urging the Tinubu administration to address internal security challenges instead.
