Supporters of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), National Vice Chairman (North Central), Mohammed Abdulrahman, on Monday staged a protest at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, demanding the removal of the Umar Damagum-led National Working Committee (NWC).
Chanting solidarity songs, the protesters accused the NWC of mismanaging party affairs and vowed to reclaim the secretariat for the Abdulrahman faction.
Security personnel were deployed to prevent unrest.
The protest came after Abdulrahman was announced as Acting National Chairman, following the suspension of National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu and Legal Adviser Kamaldeen Ajibade.
In response, a rival faction loyal to Anyanwu declared the Damagum-led NWC suspended.
The development marks another escalation in the PDP’s ongoing leadership crisis, raising fresh concerns over the opposition party’s stability ahead of future elections.
