The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), has suspended operations on the Warri-Itakpe corridor following the derailment of a train on Saturday night.
The incident occurred at Kilometre 212+8m in Agbor, Delta State, just four days after the route resumed service following months of repair and maintenance.
In a statement on Sunday, NRC Managing Director, Kayode Opeifa, said two of the train’s seven coaches derailed, but all passengers were safely evacuated with no casualties.
Preliminary investigations suggest suspected track vandalism caused the derailment.
Opeifa said train services have been suspended to allow a full security and safety audit before resumption.
