Chad has closed its border with Nigeria, citing security concerns amid reports of possible U.S. military activity in West Africa.
Military sources in N’Djamena said President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno ordered the closure after intelligence suggested that terrorist elements from northern Nigeria were planning to cross into Chad.
Troops and armoured vehicles have been deployed along key border routes, including the Lake Chad region and areas bordering Borno State.
Déby vowed that “no armed group or foreign force will be allowed to enter Chadian soil,” stressing the government’s commitment to national sovereignty.
Analysts described the move as a preventive step to safeguard Chad’s territorial integrity, though it is expected to affect trade and movement across the already volatile Lake Chad Basin.
