The Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and Lagos State recorded the highest number of complaints against police personnel in 2023, according to the Nigeria Police Force Complaint Response Unit (CRU).
Out of 1,234 complaints received nationwide, 276 came from the FCT and 252 from Lagos, representing 42 percent of the total. They were followed by Rivers (96), Delta (67), Abia (60), and Imo (50), while Zamfara recorded just one complaint.
Professional misconduct topped the list with 616 cases, followed by extortion (228) and abuse of power (138).
The CRU said 69 cases had been resolved, 16 closed, while 1,145 remain under investigation. It reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and due process in handling all pending cases.
