The internal crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has deepened as a faction loyal to the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, announced the suspension of Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagun, alongside six other National Working Committee (NWC), members.
The suspension was announced on Saturday by the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, who himself had earlier been suspended by the NWC over alleged anti-party activities.
Anyanwu said the PDP National Vice Chairman (North Central), Mohammed Abdulrahman, would immediately assume the role of Acting National Chairman.
He accused Damagun of incompetence, financial misconduct, and disregard for court rulings, stating that he would face the party’s Disciplinary Committee.
Also suspended were the National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba; Deputy National Vice Chairman (South), Taofeek Arapaja; National Financial Secretary, Daniel Woyenguikoro; National Youth Leader, Sulaiman Kadade; and Deputy National Secretary, Setonji Koshoedo, all for 30 days pending disciplinary review.
Anyanwu said the affected officials “will appear before the Disciplinary Committee to show cause why they should not be expelled.”
With these suspensions, Abdulrahman is now expected to lead the party until further decisions are made.
