The Federal Government has rejected remarks by former U.S. President Donald Trump, who alleged mass killings of Christians in Nigeria and called for the country’s designation as a “Country of Particular Concern.”
In a statement by Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa, the government said Trump’s comments “do not reflect the situation on the ground,” stressing that Nigerians of all faiths coexist peacefully.
The ministry reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment under President Bola Tinubu to fight terrorism, promote interfaith harmony, and protect citizens’ rights, while continuing engagement with the U.S. to deepen mutual understanding.
Minister of Information Mohammed Idris also refuted Trump’s claims, noting that violence in Nigeria affects both Christians and Muslims alike.
Meanwhile, the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs has urged Nigeria to strengthen protection for vulnerable communities and ensure accountability for all acts of violence.
