The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has announced that the supply of petrol and diesel now surpasses Nigeria’s daily consumption, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s quest for energy independence.
In a statement on Saturday, the Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer of Dangote Industries Limited, Anthony Chiejina, said the refinery currently loads over 45 million litres of petrol and 25 million litres of diesel daily.
“Our refinery’s output exceeds Nigeria’s demand. We are committed to ensuring steady and uninterrupted supply nationwide,” Chiejina said, noting that the feat would enhance energy security and reduce dependence on imports.
He added that improved local production has helped stabilise the exchange rate and strengthen the naira by reducing forex outflows and encouraging inflows.
Chiejina also commended the federal government’s 15% import tariff on petroleum products, describing it as a necessary measure to protect local industries from unfair competition and dumping.
He lauded President Bola Tinubu’s reforms for reshaping the downstream oil and gas sector, attracting investments, and restoring investor confidence.
The refinery reaffirmed its pledge to maintain stable petrol prices throughout the festive season, assuring Nigerians of a “Christmas and New Year free of fuel anxiety.”
According to the company, the average pump price of petrol dropped from ₦1,030 per litre in September 2024 to ₦841–₦851 per litre in September 2025, while diesel prices fell from as high as ₦1,700 to about ₦1,020 per litre.
Dangote said the achievement underscores the refinery’s role in price stability, job creation, and industrial growth, positioning Nigeria for a more self-sufficient energy future.
