The Edo State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of a 16-year-old boy, Emmanuel George, allegedly killed during a clash between NDLEA operatives and suspected drug dealers in Okpuje, Owan West Local Government Area.
Police said the incident occurred during an anti-drug operation, leaving George dead and two others injured. Residents accused NDLEA operatives of shooting the teenager.
Deputy Police PRO, ASP Eno Ikoedem, confirmed that Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, visited the community to console the bereaved family and ordered an autopsy.
He also urged residents to remain calm as the case is under investigation.
NDLEA State Commander, Mitchell Ofoyeju, denied deliberate involvement, stating that officers acted in self-defence after being attacked by suspected drug barons.
Police said updates would be provided as investigations continue.
