President Bola Tinubu has withdrawn the presidential pardon earlier granted to Maryam Sanda, convicted in 2020 for killing her husband, Bilyaminu Bello.

The revocation, announced Wednesday through a government gazette signed by Presidential Adviser Bayo Onanuga, follows widespread public criticism.

Tinubu replaced the full pardon with a 12-year prison term, citing “compassionate considerations.”

Having served six years and eight months at the Suleja Correctional Centre, Sanda is now expected to complete the remaining six years.

The reversal marks a major policy shift amid national outrage over what many Nigerians described as a blow to justice in one of the country’s most publicized homicide cases.
