Omniversity Imperial College LLC, with campuses in Missouri, USA, and Lagos, Nigeria, has announced plans to transform higher education in Africa through micro-credentials and practice-based qualifications.

Speaking at an interactive session with the Guild of Public Affairs Analysts of Nigeria (GPAAN), the institution’s President, Prof. Tokunbo Akeredolu-Ale, said the goal is to promote competency-based education that recognises practical skills over paper qualifications.

He argued that Nigeria’s theoretical education model has reached its limit, calling for reforms that integrate Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL), Competency-Based Evaluation (CBE), and international quality standards such as ISO 21001.

Omniversity, accredited by the Lagos State Ministry of Tertiary Education, offers over 900 international certified courses and is described as the world’s first ISO-certified institution issuing ISO-certified practice qualifications.

Prof. Akeredolu-Ale said the college aims to make education “affordable, flexible, and transformative,” equipping learners with real-world skills and innovation capacity to drive Africa’s development.
