Super Falcons forward Rasheedat Ajibade says the team is determined to move beyond continental dominance and become global contenders in women’s football.

Ajibade, speaking after Nigeria’s qualification for the 2026 WAFCON with a 3-1 aggregate win over Benin Republic, said the players are united in their ambition.

“We don’t just want to be African champions anymore; we want to be global contenders,” she said. “We know we have the quality and talent to compete with the best.”

She added that the 2026 WAFCON, also serving as qualifiers for the 2027 Women’s World Cup is vital for the team to defend their title and showcase improvement.

The Super Falcons, Africa’s most successful women’s team with 10 WAFCON titles, have featured in every FIFA Women’s World Cup, reaching the Round of 16 in the last edition.
