Fifteen suspended staff of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) have taken the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) to the National Industrial Court in Abuja.
The workers, in suit number NICN/ABJ/307/2025, are challenging their suspension and the appointment of a caretaker committee to oversee PENGASSAN’s NMDPRA branch.
They allege that the disciplinary actions were taken without due process or fair hearing, in violation of the union’s constitution. The plaintiffs urged the court to nullify the caretaker committee and restore their membership.
The case, which has stirred debate within the oil and gas sector, will test the limits of union authority and members’ rights in disciplinary matters
