Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Garba Muhammad, disclosed this on Tuesday during a public hearing on a bill to establish the Legislative Security Directorate, aimed at strengthening protection for lawmakers, staff, and visitors.

Muhammad said the National Assembly has faced repeated security breaches, including theft, vandalism, and infiltration by unregistered visitors.

“We have received threats from terrorists to bomb the National Assembly Complex and from protesters to lock up the premises,” he revealed, warning that such attacks could disrupt legislative activities and threaten Nigeria’s democracy.

He said the proposed bill seeks to create a coordinated, multi-layered security system for the legislature, urging similar measures in State Assemblies nationwide.

The lawmaker called for swift passage of the bill, describing it as crucial to safeguarding the nation’s democratic institutions.
