The Federal Government has restated that only goods produced in Nigeria are eligible for duty-free trade under the ECOWAS Trade Liberalisation Scheme (ETLS).

Speaking at a sensitisation workshop in Enugu themed “Increasing Intra-Regional Trade through ETLS,” Director of the ECOWAS National Unit, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Olawale Emmanuel Awe, warned against re-exporting foreign products, stressing that “only made-in-Nigeria goods qualify.”

He explained that businesses must register to benefit, as the National Approval Committee, comprising officials from key ministries and agencies inspects factories to verify local production.

Awe said the ETLS, which grants Nigerian manufacturers duty-free access to 12 other ECOWAS countries, is designed to promote regional integration and enhance competitiveness among Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises.
