Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, says Abuja’s transformation into a world-class smart city is anchored on five pillars, Urban Mobility, Sustainability, Public Safety, Digital Governance, and Economic Empowerment.
Speaking at the 2025 Asia Pacific Cities Summit in Dubai, Wike said the smart city vision is being realised through partnerships with international agencies and private sector players.
He cited projects such as the Smart Water Metering Project with JICA, the intelligent traffic light system with Chinese partners, and the ongoing Abuja City Walk and Industrial Park as examples of innovation through collaboration.
Wike said economic empowerment remains central to the plan, with efforts to expand Abuja’s digital ecosystem, attract tech firms, and create jobs for youth.
“The transformation of Abuja into a smart and sustainable city is about putting people at the centre of development building a safer, more inclusive, and prosperous environment for all,” he said.
