The third edition of the National Essay Competition powered by the Abuja City Journal (ACJ), is set to hold on November 26, 2025, in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, with young writers across the Nigeria vying for top prizes of ₦5 million, ₦3 million, and ₦2 million respectively.
The annual competition brings together students from different states, ethnic backgrounds, and academic institutions, promoting the spirit of unity in diversity and encouraging intellectual development among youths.
According to the organisers, the initiative seeks to provide a platform for young Nigerians to express innovative ideas, showcase writing skills, and contribute meaningfully to national discourse.
In a statement issued by the organising committee, the Abuja City Journal said the competition is designed to reward creativity, critical thinking, and excellence while promoting national cohesion through shared intellectual engagement.
“The Abuja City Journal National Essay Competition continues to inspire a generation of young thinkers who are passionate about the growth and unity of Nigeria.
“It is more than just a contest, it’s a movement for positive change, knowledge sharing, and nation building,” the statement read.
The grand finale of the 2025 edition will take place on November 26 in Abuja, featuring essay presentations by shortlisted finalists, keynote addresses from leading media professionals, and the official announcement of winners.
The overall winner will receive ₦5 million, while the first and second runners-up will go home with ₦3 million and ₦2 million respectively.
The organisers noted that the event will also serve as a networking platform for students, writers, and creative young Nigerians committed to driving national development through the power of words.
Since its inception, the Abuja City Journal National Essay Competition has grown into one of Nigeria’s most prestigious youth-driven intellectual events, fostering unity, excellence, and innovation across the nation.
