President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended the appointments of Timipre Sylva Ekpo as President and Damilola Oluwabiyi Mshelbila as Secretary-General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), calling it a proud moment for Nigeria.
In a statement, Tinubu said the nominations highlight Nigeria’s strategic role in the global energy sector and urged both officials to lead with integrity, promote stable gas supply, and ensure efficient management of resources among member nations.
The GECF, known as the “Gas OPEC,” unites major natural gas exporters. With Ekpo and Mshelbila in leadership, Nigeria strengthens its influence in global gas policy and energy transition efforts.
Tinubu expressed optimism that their leadership will drive sustainable development and economic growth through Nigeria’s gas resources.
