The European Union (EU), has announced a new phase of collaboration with Nigeria to strengthen research and innovation, focusing on digital transformation, climate resilience, and sustainable growth.
EU Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Gautier Mignot, disclosed this at the 18th Annual Research Conference of the University of Lagos, noting that Nigerian researchers are now eligible to participate in the EU’s €93.5 billion Horizon Europe research programme.
He said the partnership will drive inclusive progress through science, technology, and knowledge sharing, adding that talks are ongoing for a Science, Technology, and Innovation Agreement between both parties.
Vice-Chancellor of UNILAG, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, hailed the initiative as timely, stressing that Africa must develop innovations suited to its unique challenges.
The Horizon Europe programme supports global research collaboration and innovation, with over 15,000 projects funded so far.
