President Bola Tinubu has urged the newly appointed INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, to protect the integrity and credibility of Nigeria’s elections, calling transparent polls the foundation of democracy.
Tinubu administered the oath of office to Amupitan on Thursday at the State House, Abuja.
He said the appointment reflected the confidence of both the executive and legislative branches in Amupitan’s competence and integrity.
The President noted that Amupitan’s first major test would be the Anambra governorship election in November 2025 and urged him to uphold transparency, inclusivity, and non-violence throughout the electoral process.
“Your nomination and confirmation are a testament to your capacity and the confidence reposed in you,” Tinubu said, emphasizing that credible elections are essential to sustaining public trust and democracy in Nigeria.
