At least ten people have been confirmed dead after a Dangote Cement truck crashed in Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, on Wednesday night.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Sector Commander in the state said the accident, which occurred around 7:30 p.m., involved a truck loaded with stone dust and a motorcycle. The truck reportedly lost control and rammed into a barricade near Adekunle Ajasin University.

The victims’ bodies have been deposited at a nearby hospital, while emergency officials work to clear the wreckage.

The commander urged motorists to ensure vehicle safety and drive cautiously during the ember months.

According to Mosadoluwa Ajidagba, Public Relations Officer of the university’s Students’ Union Government, the truck suffered brake failure before hitting the barricade.

He lamented that repeated warnings against heavy-duty trucks using the university road had been ignored, leading to yet another fatal tragedy.
