The Sultan of Sokoto and Chairman of the Northern Traditional Rulers Council, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has dismissed claims of Christian genocide in Nigeria as false and misleading.

Speaking at the 2025 General Assembly of the Northern Traditional Council in Birnin Kebbi, the Sultan described the reports as “baseless narratives” promoted by some Western nations.

“They have been saying there was genocide of Christians in Nigeria. Where, when? These are false stories,” he said.

He urged regulation of social media to curb fake news and divisive content, while warning against unfounded attacks on the military.

Abubakar reaffirmed the loyalty of traditional rulers to democratic institutions and urged unity among monarchs.

Representing President Bola Tinubu, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila commended traditional rulers for promoting peace, while Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris and Defence Chief Gen. Christopher Musa pledged continued collaboration for national security.
