The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), will hold an emergency National Executive Council (E-NEC), meeting on Saturday, October 25, to review the Federal Government’s response to its 30-day ultimatum over unresolved welfare and policy issues.
In a notice signed by its Secretary-General, Dr. Shuaibu Ibrahim, NARD said the meeting would determine whether the union would embark on fresh industrial action.
The association had on September 26 issued a 30-day deadline demanding payment of CONMESS arrears, promotion arrears, and accoutrement allowances, among others.
It also decried poor working conditions, salary shortfalls, and the continued casualization of medical officers.
NARD condemned the dismissal of five resident doctors from the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja, describing it as unjust amid growing brain drain and burnout in the health sector.
The union accused the government of failing to implement agreed pension benefits and address infrastructural decay, warning that neglect of its demands could cripple healthcare delivery nationwide.
