A fire broke out on Tuesday evening at the Alaba International Market in Lagos, destroying several plazas near the Ojo Local Government Secretariat and sending traders into panic.
Videos from the scene showed thick smoke billowing as firefighters battled to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings.
The cause of the fire remains unknown, and no casualties have been reported as of press time.
Located along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway, Alaba International Market is one of West Africa’s largest trading hubs for electronics, furniture, and building materials.
The incident adds to a growing list of recent fire outbreaks in Lagos commercial centres.
