The Federal High Court in Abuja has for the third time denied bail to Tukur Mohammed Mamu, alleged negotiator in the 2022 Abuja-Kaduna train attack case.
Justice Mohammed Umar ruled on Wednesday that the prosecution had shown due diligence, adding that bail could only be granted if the government failed to prosecute promptly, which was not the case.
While acknowledging Mamu’s health challenges, the judge directed the Department of State Services (DSS), to allow him access to medical treatment at a facility chosen by his lawyers and to permit family visits.
Mamu, arrested in Cairo on September 7, 2022, and extradited to Nigeria, faces a 10-count terrorism-related charge.
He is accused of facilitating ransom payments between families of kidnapped train passengers and Boko Haram members, allegedly profiting from the process.
