ActionAid Nigeria and Amnesty International have condemned Monday’s violent attacks on peaceful protesters and civil society members in Abuja and Lagos.
In a joint statement, the groups urged the Federal Government to demonstrate its commitment to human rights and protect Nigeria’s civic space.
They cited the incident involving Ms. Yemi Adamolekun of the Enough Is Enough (EiE), movement, who laid flowers in Lagos in memory of #EndSARS victims but was reportedly met with heavy-handed security response.
ActionAid Country Director, Andrew Mamedu, described the attacks as a gross violation of citizens’ rights, while Amnesty’s Isa Sanusi warned that the growing intolerance for peaceful assemblies signals a disturbing decline in civic freedom.
