The Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), Dr. Fatima Kyari, has urged newly inducted doctors and dental surgeons of the University of Ibadan to resist the urge to migrate abroad and instead contribute to strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare system.
Dr. Kyari gave the advice on Monday during the oath-taking ceremony and presentation of provisional licenses to the 2025 MBBS and BDS graduating class at the Ibadan Civic Centre, Oyo State.
Expressing concern over the rising trend of medical brain drain, she said: “I have signed off quite a number of global verifications for doctors intending to practice abroad. But I urge you all to remain in Nigeria and contribute your quota to your fatherland.”
She assured that MDCN remains committed to developing the nation’s healthcare workforce and supporting institutions to produce more competent professionals.
The Provost of the College of Medicine, Prof. Temidayo Ogundiran, also advised the new doctors to uphold professionalism, integrity, and empathy as they begin their careers, adding that the Nigerian health system needs their innovation and resilience.
He charged them to be “ambassadors of excellence” and uphold the University’s legacy of competence and ethical practice.
