The Lagos State Government has reintroduced cash rewards for residents who submit recyclable waste under its “Cash for Trash” programme.

Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the initiative on Monday, saying residents will be rewarded every Thursday for contributing to a cleaner, greener Lagos.

“It’s a win for your wallet and a win for our city,” Wahab said in a post on X, adding that the LAWMA Recycling Team is actively engaging communities across the state.

Through the scheme, residents earn money by submitting sorted plastics and other recyclables to the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA).

Officials hope the programme will promote sustainability, reduce pollution, and provide economic benefits to households.
