The management of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), has dismissed claims by the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), that Vice-Chancellor Prof. Abayomi Fasina ordered the arrest of union leaders.

In a statement on Monday, the university described the allegation as “baseless,” clarifying that Prof. Fasina was in Abuja on official assignment when the incident occurred.

It said the Vice-Chancellor even contacted the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police to request the release of the detained union officials.

The institution explained that tensions had risen ahead of the Vice-Chancellor’s return from a six-month leave, with intelligence suggesting that some SSANU members planned to disrupt his resumption.

The police, acting on the report, invited the union leaders for questioning.

FUOYE alleged that during a community meeting, some SSANU members attempted to cause unrest and later acted “unruly” when they met with the police.

The management reaffirmed its commitment to staff welfare and industrial harmony, urging the public to disregard what it called “false narratives” against the Vice-Chancellor.
