The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), has launched a contactless biometric system that enables instant issuance of driver’s licences, marking a major leap toward full digitalisation in Nigeria’s motor vehicle administration.
Unveiling the system at the 2025 Ember Months Road Safety Campaign in Abuja, Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed said the innovation would eliminate delays and the use of temporary licences.
“With this upgrade, applicants will be captured and issued their driver’s licences instantly. No more temporary licences or long waiting periods,” he said.
Mohammed noted that the FRSC’s new printing facility now produces up to 15,000 licences daily, a capacity expected to clear all backlogs by November 2025.
He added that the contactless technology, developed in partnership with state governments, integrates driving schools, VIOs, and certification systems to enhance efficiency and data accuracy.
According to him, the initiative reflects global best practices and underscores the Corps’ commitment to technology-driven road safety management.
