The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has launched the Customs Verification Management System (CVMS), a digital platform designed to curb vehicle smuggling and enhance transparency in clearance processes.
Unveiling the system in Abuja, Comptroller-General of Customs Adewale Adeniyi described the initiative as a major step in the Service’s modernization drive.
Developed in partnership with the Trade Modernisation Project and Afripoint Consult, the CVMS allows users to verify vehicle clearance status using the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), for a ₦15,000 fee.
Adeniyi said the platform would empower citizens, importers, and dealers with verifiable data while eliminating fraud and manual bottlenecks.
“For the first time, Nigerians can verify the clearance status of any imported vehicle without intermediaries or delays,” he noted.
Afripoint’s Managing Director, Ajibola Adetula, hailed the system as a “game-changer for transparency,” while the Motor Dealers Association described it as long overdue.
The initiative is part of a 20-year Trade Modernisation Project aimed at automating Customs operations and achieving full trade digitalisation by 2030.
