Tension flared in the Senate on Tuesday when Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan clashed with Senate President Godswill Akpabio during plenary over a debate on rape.
Akpoti-Uduaghan, seeking to contribute to the discussion, raised her hand but was not recognized by Akpabio, prompting her to protest loudly, “Let me speak, I’m a woman!”
Her outburst drew murmurs across the chamber as she insisted the issue directly affected women and her voice must be heard.
Before the exchange could escalate, Senator Adams Oshiomhole cited the Senate’s Rule of Order, noting the debate had already been concluded. His intervention restored calm.
The incident underscored growing tensions over gender-sensitive debates in the National Assembly.
