Gunmen have kidnapped a primary school teacher, Ishaya Ismaila, while harvesting maize on his farm in Tungan Maje, Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT.
Residents said the armed men stormed the farm around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday and whisked him away. Ismaila, who teaches at LEA Primary School, Dakwa 1 in Bwari Area Council, lives in Tungan Maje with his family.
His wife, Halima, said the abductors later demanded ₦1 million ransom but the family has only managed to raise ₦185,000.
The head teacher, Malam Zakari Dantani, confirmed the abduction, adding that security agencies and the Nigeria Union of Teachers have been notified.
Police in Zuba said efforts were ongoing to rescue the victim and arrest the kidnappers.
