Thousands of commuters were stranded on Monday as soldiers mounted a roadblock on the Abuja-Keffi Expressway for a stop-and-search operation.
The blockade, which began around 6:00 a.m. at the Kugbo axis, caused a massive gridlock stretching to Masaka in Nasarawa State.
Many travelers heading to Abuja from Nyanya, Karu, Mararaba, and Masaka were forced to turn back after hours of waiting.
The operation coincides with the planned #FreeNnamdiKanu protest in Abuja, sparking speculation that the military action was a security measure to forestall unrest.
