The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP), has called on Senate President Godswill Akpabio and House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas to launch a probe into alleged mismanagement and diversion of public funds within the National Assembly.
In a letter to both leaders, SERAP said prompt and transparent action would restore public trust and prove the legislature’s commitment to public interest.
The group issued a seven-day ultimatum to act or face legal action.
SERAP also urged the referral of the allegations to anti-corruption agencies for a thorough investigation and recovery of any missing funds, describing the situation as a reflection of weak transparency and accountability mechanisms.
The organisation warned that corruption continues to deepen poverty and hinder development, citing constitutional and international obligations that compel the National Assembly to promote accountability in public finance management.
