The Nigeria Police Force has cautioned groups planning protests for the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to steer clear of the Aso Rock Villa and its environs, citing a subsisting court order.

Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said in a statement on Sunday that the warning followed a Federal High Court order in Abuja restraining demonstrations around key government installations.

According to Hundeyin, the court, in a ruling on Federal Republic of Nigeria v. Omoyele Sowore and 4 others on October 17, barred protests within and around the Aso Rock Villa, National Assembly Complex, Force Headquarters, Court of Appeal, Eagle Square, and Shehu Shagari Way.

He advised intending protesters and counter-protest groups to avoid restricted areas and refrain from any conduct that could trigger confrontation or public disorder.

Hundeyin said the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, had directed the FCT Commissioner of Police and relevant commands to ensure strict enforcement of the order, maintain security, and protect lives and property.

He warned that anyone using protests to incite violence, carry weapons, or vandalize property would face arrest and prosecution under relevant criminal laws.

The police urged organisers to channel grievances through lawful means and assured residents of adequate security to ensure peace and free movement in the capital.
