Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, resurfaced in Abuja on Sunday, putting to rest speculation about his health and whereabouts.
Edun was seen at Fraser Suites, Abuja, attending a closed-door business meeting with a Qatari delegation alongside Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Jumoke Oduwole. He arrived in the afternoon and departed about an hour later.
His appearance followed reports that he had travelled to the United Kingdom for medical treatment. However, a video shared by the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) showed him in Abuja, dressed in agbada, actively engaging with delegates.
Earlier in the week, Edun had been spotted at the 1-54 London Art Fair, visiting the O’DA Art Gallery booth at Somerset House on October 15.
Presidential aide Bayo Onanuga later clarified that the minister was only on an officially approved “few days of rest,” dismissing rumours of ill health.
Edun’s absence at the recent World Bank and IMF Annual Meetings in Washington, D.C., where CBN Governor Olayemi Cardoso led Nigeria’s delegation, had fuelled speculation of a possible cabinet reshuffle.
Appointed on August 28, 2023, Edun remains a central figure in President Bola Tinubu’s economic team, overseeing fiscal reforms, foreign investment strategies, and efforts to stabilise the naira.
